October Cruise to Backbone State Park
It was a cloudy, cool morning. We had 11 Classics/Cruisers leave from the old Chevy lot on Hwy 1 West. It sprinkled but then stopped. We cruised to the corner of Kalona Creamery and turned right. Many farmers were taking their crops out and we saw a few buggies going down the road.
We arrived in Wellman and went by the Silver Ponds Assisted Living then arrived at the Parkview Manor at 9:30a.
Some residents and staff were sitting/standing outside to view the CCC Classics/Cruisers and others were viewing from the windows. We went around the parking lot circle twice slowly. They seemed excited that we came. We then left Wellman for Kalona going Hwy 22 arriving at Pleasant view Manor. We went by the independent living where some residents were sitting in their garages or in the windows. We went around the nursing home's parking circle lot then went back out to Hwy 22 where we did catch a view of individuals in their buggy.
We continued through Riverside to Hwy Old 218 to Hills. Arriving at the Casey's and taking a 10 minute break. Another Classic joined us cruising to Atrium Village. Arriving at the circle drive, the Activity Director was there with her children and wanted us to stop briefly so the residents could view the Classics/cruisers from the front windows. Cruising past the side of the nursing home some were out with signs - "Stop" and "Thank You for Coming".
As we left Hills we went out of town via Main Street turning on the Sand Road to Hwy 22. We cruised to Lone Tree to the Lone Tree Health Care Center going slowly around their parking lot circle.
Leaving Lone Tree we cruised down Hwy 22 through Nichols to Hwy 70, turning left to West Liberty. In West Liberty we cruised slowly past the Simpson Memorial Home going by the Nursing Home wing, the Independent Living, and Assisted Living.
We cruised back to Hwy 6W ending our cruise. Some went on their way and others went to the Village Inn, Iowa City to eat lunch.
CCC members enjoyed the cruise seeing the countryside, leaves, crops, etc. This may have been our last cruise of 2020. We don't want to see the colder weather and winter come, maybe time to put the Classics to storage for the season to come....
HOWEVER DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU SEE A CLASSIC CRUISING ON THE NICE SUNNY DAY!
